A Moral Message

It is by Allah’s grace that we are one of the chosen Nigerians to be part of this great University’s (KFUPM) community. A number of our fellow Nigerians and other nationalities are looking for this unique opportunity to come and study or work at KFUPM. We are here as ambassadors of our great nation, Nigeria. We should truly and positively represent her to the best of our abilities. We always need to reflect on our situation back home and think deeply on what brought us offshore the country.

Our advice to you and ourselves is to strive to focus on our primary objective(s) of coming here and try to excel in our studies. We are all beneficiaries of the positive legacies that were laid by those fine Nigerians that had earlier passed through KFUPM. In our little way, we should endeavor to build on these legacies and not to destroy them. Let us remember, the sons of who we are. First and foremost, we are to protect our names and our family legacies. If we should get involved in any negative incidence, it will in general terms reflect on us as Nigerians, but on the long run, the most affected will be us as individuals and our well cherished family names.

Over the last two decades, the Nigerian community in KFUPM has grown exponentially. As of the late 90’s, we were few in number, families inclusive, but today, Al-hamdulillah, our population in the university has increased tremendously. It is an onerous task on us to work hard towards harnessing this new found population surge and strength positively. As of this moment, with God’s guidance, we have not had any ugly incidence involving Nigerians on campus and out of campus. Our hope and prayers are that we keep the positive impression and confidence that the university authorities reposed on us alive.

May we advise that you endeavor be dutiful and strive to earn your stipend as a student or worker in this university positively. Also strive to protect your academic integrity by putting in your effort to do your work diligently.  Always provide adequate references to support any published work that you cite in the course of reporting a research work or term papers. There is no place for academic stealing (plagiarism). In academics, It is a good practice not to take credit for what is not yours.
