Overview of Nigerian Community at KFUPM

Nigerian Community at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals is a vibrant and dynamic community. It consists of all Nigerians that are either studying or working in KFUPM. We also consider all Nigerians, who are not in KFUPM but participates in our activities as part of the community. All students and workers from African extraction that participate in our activities are also considered part of us. It is vibrant community in the sense that we live together peacefully and interact like one family regardless of our different places of origin in Nigeria. It is dynamic as new entrants into the community are received yearly and also some existing members leave for good. Many Nigerians that were at KFUPM some years back, are now working or studying in USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Oman, etc. Also, many are now working in various companies or teaching in other universities within Saudi Arabia. A few old members of the community have also returned home for gainful employments in different organizations.

The community as a group aims at:

  1. Establish a community of Nigerians that are academically sound and morally upright.
  2. Maintain a good human relationship, mutual respect, brotherhood that will minimize cultural shock among the new comers, and increase peaceful coexistence and academic productivity among all the community members.

  5. Relief Fund: Due to the occurrence of certain unfortunate events, a Relief Fund (RF) was launched in and for the community. We collect contribution voluntarily at the end of each month towards this fund. We use this money to assist community members that need assistance that do not required refund.

We are encouraged to always actively participate in the various activities of the community. This will help us as a community to benefit from each other’s experiences. Your suggestions and genuine criticism are what we use to improve our activities, therefore they are highly welcome. Experience has shown that staying away from the community for whatever reason is not healthy for us as individuals, and gives the community no opportunity to see how it can help you enjoy your stay at KFUPM.
